Abstract : The reaction between tetracyanoethylene and 7 7,8 8-tetracyanoquinodimethane with pyrazoles 5a-d gave 1-(4' -tricyanovinyl) and 1-(4' -tricyanoquinodimethane)phenyl-3.5-disubstituted pyrazoles 6a, 7b-d and J7a-c respectively. The new pyrazole dyes showed absorption bands in the visiblc and near infrared region of the spectrum. The dyes showed remarkable solvatochromism.
