Abstract : Introduction : Previous studies have shown that growth modification in treating patients having Skeletal Class II maloeclusion.due.ro.mandibuler deficiency is still controversial, Also, it has been shown that low intensity 'pulsed ultrasound (LIP US) can modify mandibular.growtbin growing rabbits. To applysuch•treatment tohumans,.it is essential to study its effect oumandibulargr9wthinhigheranimalmodels. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Using 1.IPUS on mandible growth in baboon Monkeys. Methods: Fourteen juvenile male Hiunadryasbaboon monkeys were used and were divided into two groups of seven each. One group received bite jumping appliances (jumper group) and the other group did not (control group), In both groups. the left temporomandibular joint area received LIPUS( stimulated) and the right side served as tbeeontrol (no stimulated). Before cuthanization, after four months of'startingtreatment, all monkeys were injected with 99-*'Mtc MDP (ethylene diphosphonate). The beads weredecapitatedand.scanned for bone growth using a dual bead gamma camera. The mandibles were then dissected, sectioned into two halvC5 and radiographer for anthropometric measurement. Thecondy les were harvested and processed for histological examination. Results: Results showed that LIPUS increased mandible length and growth activity in all treated sides (P< .001) especially in the jumper group. Conclusions: LIPUS enhances mandible grow bin growing baboon monkeys, especially when combined with anterior mandible jumping appliances Key words: Gtvwth modification, ultrasound, pri:matestrnandible, functional appliance.
